Hormones, Emotions & You — It’s Not Just in Your Head

jessica morris

Pregnancy is often painted as a magical, glowing journey — but sometimes it feels more like an emotional rollercoaster. One moment you’re laughing at a dog in a sunhat, the next you’re sobbing over a sandwich.

Sound familiar?

It’s not just you. And it’s definitely not in your head.

What’s Really Going On?

Your body is doing something absolutely remarkable — and it’s using a powerful cocktail of hormones to make it all happen.
During pregnancy, your levels of oestrogen and progesterone skyrocket. These hormones are essential for supporting your baby’s development, keeping your uterus in check, and even helping prepare your body for birth.

But they also impact your mood, energy, and emotional sensitivity.

You may feel:

  • Teary for no reason

  • Easily overwhelmed

  • More sensitive to criticism

  • Periods of sudden joy or sadness

All of it is normal. None of it means you’re doing anything wrong.

How to Gently Support Yourself

You don’t need to fix the feelings. You just need space to hold them — with kindness and care.

Here are a few ways to soften the edges:

🛌 Rest more often. Even short naps can make a huge difference in how you feel.
🥗 Eat regularly and gently. Small, balanced meals can help with mood dips.
🧘♀️ Create small rituals. Five minutes with your hand on your bump, eyes closed, breath slow — that’s medicine.
💬 Let it out. Whether it’s through a chat, a good cry, or a scribbled thought in a notebook — release what’s inside.

The Baboo Box Second Trimester Box

We created our Second Trimester Baboo Box especially for this in-between phase — when the nausea is easing (hopefully) but the emotions can feel... a lot.

Inside, you'll find little ways to comfort both body and mind:
💤 Magnesium bath salts to ease tension and help you sleep
🌙 A soft sleep mask to block out the world for a moment of rest
🍵 Sleepy tea for your wind-down ritual
📓 A notebook to capture whatever’s swirling in your mind — dreams, worries, or those half-finished thoughts at 3 a.m.

It’s not just a box. It’s a permission slip to slow down.
To soothe. To feel. To be.

You’re not overreacting. You’re not being too much.
You’re growing a life. And it’s okay if some days feel hard.

Be gentle with your emotions. They’re part of the journey — not a detour.
